Everyone knows how incredible that first perfectly chilled sip of wine, water or beer is. Kevin wanted to offer people that experience for the whole bottle. This is his and Kaelo’s story.
Inspired by a warm beer in Brighton pub, Kevin Jabou set out to create something that kept every sip of your drink perfectly chilled without using ice, water or mess.
Working from his garden shed in East London, he spent 7 years creating over 300 prototypes before perfecting and patenting the unique technology.
Pronounced ”Kay-lo”
It’s a mixture of the Japanese word ‘Kaizen’ meaning “continuous improvement” (our company philosophy) and ‘halo’ from the light reflected on a bottle when inside Kaelo.
With the name and product ready, there was one thing left to do…
Moving from the shed into an office (a big step!) Kaelo launched to the world.
First displayed in independent kitchen showrooms, Kaelo was soon being enjoyed by hundreds of families across the UK.
Demand grew, and other markets came knocking. Kaelo was now available in the USA, Netherlands & Italy.
The first editions of Kaelo were created by carving into solid blocks of stainless steel with a CNC machine to form the chamber that holds the bottles.
Although incredibly robust, Kevin knew this method produced a lot of waste, so he redesigned Kaelo to be more environmentally friendly. The new design uses 90% fewer materials and is 60% more efficient.
It meant Kaelo was suitable to be specified into boats and was now included in luxury yachts as standard.
After record sales in 2019, Sir Richard Needham (ex-Deputy Chairman of Dyson) joined Kaelo as chairman and built a team with experts from Dyson, Brita & Quooker.
Kaelo opened its doors to Crowdfunding, inviting customers to become owners for the first time. Smashing the crowdfunding target by 141%, we now have 412 new investors along for the journey.
With a team of ex-Dyson engineers on board, Kaelo launches their new range, winning ‘Best Kitchen Innovation’ at the 2022 Designer Awards!
Kaelo proudly manufactures in the UK and is run by a small but mighty team based in East London.
